Our Review
A jewel in the crown of the Fogarty Wine Group, Deep Woods produces some of the country’s finest wines. The original 14ha vineyard on the Yallingup property is planted mostly to red varieties and chief winemaker Julian Langworthy says it’s where the best fruit comes from, especially cabernet sauvignon, destined for the top-tier wines. A Jimmy Watson Trophy winner and Halliday Wine Companion Winemaker of the Year in 2019, it’s no surprise that Julian also crafts outstanding chardonnay, thanks to thoughtful winemaking and excellent fruit sourced from local growers; ditto rosé and more besides. He says Deep Wood’s goal is to make contemporary, compelling, yet distinctly Margaret River wines with an international proposition. The aspiration has been realised. -JANE FAULKNER
