Yabby Lake Vineyard

Victoria | Mornington Peninsula

Our Review

This high-profile wine business was established in 1998 by Robert and Mem Kirby (of Village Roadshow), who had been landowners in the Mornington Peninsula for decades. The vineyard enjoys a north-facing slope, capturing maximum sunshine while also receiving sea breezes. In the midst of conersion to organic viticulture, the main focus is on 25ha of pinot noir, 14ha of chardonnay and 8ha of pinot gris; 3ha of shiraz, merlot and sauvignon blanc take a back seat. The arrival of the hugely talented Tom Carson as group winemaker in 2008 added lustre to the winery and its wines, making the first Jimmy Watson Trophy–winning pinot noir in 2014 and continuing to blitz the Australian wine show circuit with single-block pinot noirs. Exports to the UK, Canada, Sweden, Hong Kong and China. -JAMES HALLIDAY

Yabby Lake Vineyard was established in 1998 in the sub-region of Moorooduc, situated in the north of the Mornington Peninsula.

Founded by the Kirby family, Yabby Lake is headed up by Chief Winemaker and General Manager Tom Carson.

We have been making single vineyard chardonnay and pinot noir from this site for almost a decade, and both have rapidly gained a reputation for excellence. The winemaking philosophy at Yabby Lake is expression over impression, crafting wines that reflect the spirit of the season and vineyard.
