Hermann Thumm sold Chateau Yaldara in 1999, and promptly set about recreating an even more lavish baroque-style chateau surrounded by 30 000 roses and filled with a vast collection of Meissen porcelain, antique furniture, tapestries and paintings. A wide range of table wines (vintages going back a decade or more), grape liqueurs, ports, grape nectar products are on sale. A variety of tours are available. -JAMES HALLIDAY
