Bunkers Margaret River Wines

Western Australia | Margaret River

Our Review

Over the past 20+ years, Mike Calneggia had his fingers in innumerable Margaret River viticultural pies. While Bunkers Wines, owned by Mike and Sally Calneggia, is only a small part of his viticultural undertakings, it has been carefully targeted from the word go. It has 6 mainstream varieties (cabernet, semillon, merlot, chardonnay, sauvignon blanc and shiraz) joined by rising star, tempranillo, in the northern part of the Margaret River. Severine Logan is winemaker and Murray Edmonds the viticulturist. Mike and daughter Amy are responsible for sales and marketing. They say, ‘The world of wine is full of serious people making serious wines for an ever-decreasing serious market ... Bunkers wines have been created to put the ‘F’ word back into wine, ‘FUN’, that is.' Exports to Japan. -JAMES HALLIDAY

Bunkers Wines is named after spectacular Bunker Bay, the pristine beauty on the tip of the Cape Naturaliste peninsula in the Margaret River wine region in Western Australia. Bunkers brings together surfing and wine, two of the region’s greatest passions. Lefthanders, Supertubes, Honeycombs, Windmills, Guillotines, and Bears make up the Bunkers range – each wine is a reflection of its namesake Margaret River surf break. From a zippy Sauvignon Blanc Semillon through to a savoury, spicy Shiraz, there is something to suit every taste. These are serious wines… for not-so-serious people. Bunkers wines are a world away from your average bottle.
