Paulmara Estates

Born to an immigrant Greek family, Paul Georgiadis grew up in Waikerie, where his family had vineyards and orchards. His parents worked sufficiently hard to send him first to St Peters College in Adelaide and then to Adelaide University to do a marketing degree. He became the whirlwind grower-relations manager for Southcorp, and one of the best-known faces in the Barossa Valley. Paul and wife Mara established a vineyard in 1995, currently planted to shiraz, sangiovese, mataro, nero d'avola and cabernet sauvignon. Part of the production is sold, and the best shiraz makes the Syna Shiraz (‘syna’ being Greek for together). -JAMES HALLIDAY
