Hare's Chase

South Australia | Barossa Valley

Our Review

Hare’s Chase was created by 2 families, headed respectively by (ex Penfolds) Peter Taylor as then winemaker, with over 30 vintages’ experience, and Mike de la Haye as general manager. Together they purchased a 100+yo vineyard in the Marananga Valley area of the Barossa Valley, in 1997. The vineyard has some of the best red soil available for dry-grown viticulture. Extensive replanting means that three-quarters of the vineyard is planted to now 20+yo shiraz vines, with some mourvèdre, cabernet sauvignon and tempranillo. Exports to the US, Canada, Switzerland, Singapore, Hong Kong and Malaysia.

About

Hare’s Chase is a single vineyard estate winery located at Marananga on a rocky rise to the west of Tanunda and the central valley floor. The estate is planted predominantly to Shiraz with further plantings of Cabernet Sauvignon, Mataro and Tempranillo. A ‘sister’ winery to Schubert Estate on Roennfeldt Road, Hare’s Chase wines are typical of this highly sought after location of the Barossa. The wines are deeply coloured and richly flavoured with firm ripe tannins.
