Craneford

South Australia | Barossa Valley

Our Review

Since Craneford was founded it has undergone a number of changes of both location and ownership. The biggest change came in 2004 when the winery, by then housed in the old country fire station building in Truro, was expanded and upgraded. In '06 John Glaetzer joined the team as consultant winemaker, with Carol Riebke the day-to-day winemaker. Quality grapes are sourced from contract growers. Exports to all major markets. -JAMES HALLIDAY

OUR WINERY

Situated right in the centre of Truro, Craneford Wines welcomes the traveller or the dedicated wine lover. A warm fire in the winter with a coffee and a cheeseplate, then a tasting of our premium wines and a tour around our winery provides those special memories of your visit to the wine regions of South Australia. Adjoining the Cellar Door is a quaint little home that has been renovated into the main winery office, with shaded front gardens graced by an old stone setting and a relaxing water feature. During the summer months you may enjoy your wine tasting experiences here. The production and processing centre as well as a barrel storage shed are directly behind. The bottling rooms are off to one side of this building. The large production centre has been built around an historic old stone wash house so that more of our past history can be preserved. Our friendly staff are always ready to answer your questions, show you around or just have a chat.

OUR WINEMAKER

It takes more than just a combination of quality products to create a top wine. Craneford Wines' winemaker, Carol Riebke, credits her success to a combination of passion, experience and first hand involvement in the wine making process. Carol completed a 4 year degree in oenology at Adelaide University in 2004. She worked vintage at Torbrek Wines in the same year, garnering more hands-on experience, before beginning employment with Craneford Wines in Truro as an assistant winemaker in May of 2004. Demonstrating exceptional ability she was appointed winemaker in 2006. Carol is quickly establishing herself as a winemaker of great repute within the industry. She insists on maintaining a close and friendly contact with the source of her creations. " I love the contact with the growers" she said. " That's the great thing about working in a small winery - you're not just sitting behind a desk.
