Burge Family Winemakers

South Australia | Barossa Valley

Our Review

In '13, Burge Family Winemakers – an iconic producer of exceptionally rich, lush and concentrated Barossa red wines – marked 85 years of continuous winemaking by 3 generations of the family. Burge Family was purchased by the Wilsford Group in Nov ’18; the legacy of the Burge Family will be preserved with no change in wine style. Derek Fitzgerald has stepped into Rick Burge’s shoes, having made wine in the Barossa for 14 years. Exports to Hong Kong and China. -JAMES HALLIDAY

About

Established in 1928 by Percival Burge, the family firm is today managed by his grandson Rick, who in his 25 years at the helm, has developed an enviable reputation for the premium table wines from the firm's single-vineyard DRAYCOTT and OLIVE HILL blocks. Also available are the rich, mellow "Wilsford" fortifieds, released from old, maturing stocks that are judiciously freshened and bottled using a modified solera method.
All wines are estate grown, without the use of fungicides, weedicides, insecticides or artificial fertilizers.
