Alkina Wine Estate

South Australia | Barossa Valley

Our Review

Alkina was born in '15 when Argentinian vintner Alejandro Bulgheroni purchased his Greenock property with its 1950s-planted vineyard.
The front 40ha of the farm has been certified organic and biodynamic since '18. The organically farmed back block, formerly the Owens vineyard, was added in '17 and was certified in '22. In '17, the addition of terroir expert Pedro Parra to the team led to the Polygon mapping project; a deep dive into what makes the unique terroir of the property tick. Think traditional western Barossa grape varieties with wild yeasts, some with a little skin contact, whole-bunch ferments, concrete eggs and fermenters, Italian clay amphorae, Georgian qvevri and older large-format oak and you’re on the right track. -DAVE BROOKES
